Thetford Forest is a patchwork of pines, heathland and broadleaves providing the ideal setting for a great day out, and a welcome refuge for a rich variety of animal and plant life.

You can now book all BBQs online and up to a maximum of 3 months in advance.

There are 8 BBQs available, which are suitable for family groups and larger parties. The small BBQs cater for approximately 12 people and the large for about 20, however they are yours to use all day. You'll need to supply your own charcoal and tools!

BBQs can only be used if hired from High Lodge, this is to minimise the fire risk. Portable, disposable and personal BBQs and camping stoves are not allowed on site and will be extinguished.

Prices and Session times 

  • Small BBQ - £15 Available from 11:30am until 1 hour before site closure.
  • Large BBQ - £25 Available from 11:30am until 1 hour before site closure.
  • There is no vehicular access to any BBQs but you can park close to numbers 3 to 8.

How to book and pay

All High Lodge BBQs are bookable online. You can choose the date, location and size you require using the online calendar up to 3 months in advance. BBQ Locations here

The Zip line is closed until further notice for safety reasons.

The Café, Pantry and Ice cream Parlour are managed by Churchill Catering Ltd.

The Cafe is open:-

Weekdays - 9:00 - 17:00

Weekends and school holidays 09:00- 17:00

Breakfast is served until 11:30 and Lunch 12:00 - 15:00

The Pantry is open:-

Weekends and school holidays - 11:00 - 16:00 (subject to demand)

The Ice Cream Parlour is opened as required during peak periods.

Outdoor Activities

Please bring CASH for on site additional attractions such as face painting, pony rides and archery. Check the Attractions section on the web page for updates.

Go Ape Tree Top Adventure and Tree Top Junior

Week days: 09:00 - 17:00 (Last cycle hire 15:45*)

Weekends : 09:00 - 18:00 (Last cycle hire 16:45*)

Bike hire may be restricted by daylight hours and weather during winter months.

We do currently have harvesting operations and contractors maintaining the trails on site. Place follow any diversions and adhere to all signage. Thank you.

Lime Burner (red grade) - Approx 16km

Open - with diversions due to trail maintenance.

Helter Skelter - Closed

Access and use of Fire Road 11 - Closed.

Beater (red grade) - Approx 18km  

Tightrope - closed

Poacher (blue grade) - Approx 16km

Open - But the North-Western loop is closed which means the trail uses the shortcut.

Shepherd (forest road and other grade) - Approx 8km

Open with diversions due to harvesting.

 Shepherd Shortcut is diverted making it considerably shorter.

There is adequate parking on site for most days of the year. The site entry fee includes the parking fee. The VAQAS recommended minimum visit time is 4 hours.

Accessibility Notes:
  • High Lodge is fully wheel chair accessible and has fully accessible toilet facilities both in the centre and in the new toilet block.
  • An easy access trail is available from just outside the centre, it passes by the five giant play sculptures and has seats along the way.
  • Most of the walking trails around the High Lodge are flat but the surfaces may be uneven.

Food and drink

The Cafe serves fresh, seasonal, hot and cold food and drinks throughout the year. The Pantry and Ice Cream Parlour may also be open during the holidays and peak times, subject to customer demand. It is open everyday, (excluding Christmas
