Bad weather means park events are off

The bad weather has caused the cancellation of two outdoor events in Ipswich parks today.

The first casualty is the Vehicle Family Fun Day in Holywells Park. A Borough Council spokesman said the heavy rain this morning gave organisers little choice but to call it off. Also cancelled is the activity event at St Augustine’s recreation ground – an inflatables sports fun session, a table top nature experiments afternoon and a climbing wall event organised by the Army reserves.

The spokesman added: “We know people have been looking forward to these events but we have been monitoring the weather and regretfully have had to cancel them – we cannot take risks with people’s safety. However, we are hoping the sun will shine on Friday for the big end of summer free Family Fun Day in Chantry Park.”

There are still more than 30 free sporting activities available in the next week, including boxing, karate, zumba for kids, football, basketball, Xtreme Active and the Greatest Showman Dance Class. To find out more go to www.ipswichfit.co.uk/summer-holiday-programme
