Santa Claus is coming to town! The museum may now be closed for winter but we still have a varied programme of 'out of season' events  from now until we reopen next March!

Wrap up in your winter woolies and come on over to Leiston on Saturday 3rd December for some festive fun throughout the town, and not least at the Long Shop Museum – recently voted Suffolk’s Family Friendly Museum of the Year! Santa and his elves will travel by tractor and trailer with musical accompaniment from the Never Ready Band all the way from the Sizewell Road Car Park at about 11.45am to the Long Shop Museum which will host a range of seasonal delights as part of the Leiston Christmas Fair.

From12 noon until 5pm, Father Christmas will be handing out presents at the Long Shop Grotto to all well-behaved children who visit him. Shunting engine Sirapite will be in steam and available for rides, appealing alpacas as well as a petting donkey will be on site and the museum will be transformed into a Christmas market with local traders supplying gorgeous gifts. You can also pick up one or more of our splendid 2017 Long Shop Museum Calendars.

Prizes will be aplenty at the Tombola as well as the Grand Draw including prize donations from Waitrose, Tala Retro Kitchenware and Leiston Cinema. Childrens’ activities will include lantern making and crafts by Leiston Girl Guides and there will be fairground at the Old Post Office Square.

Warming refreshments include hot jacket potatoes, burgers, mince pies and mulled apple juice.

Yuletide activities continue across the town and glittering highlights include a childrens’ lantern procession which will follow Father Christmas up to the town centre as dusk falls at 5pm.

Late Night Shopping will take place from 4pm - 7pm with live music and food from Sizewell Club followed by the Christmas Lights turn on at 5.30pm and winners of the best dressed shop window and childrens’ treasure hunt will be announced.

Children from Leiston Primary School will be singing carols and Thumbs Up from Alde Valley Academy will be also be performing.

Things will be hotting up when the Fire Service will be bringing along the Fire Engine, plus more to be confirmed…!

The Late Night Shopping event is being sponsored by Leiston Town Council and EDF Energy.

Those wanting to continue reveling into the night can don their dancing shoes for the Christmas Ball at the LTAA from 6pm (early ticket purchase recommended). Entry to the Fair is free – tickets to see Father Christmas £4, available from the Garrett Room. For details of this as well as other ‘out of season’ events at the Long Shop Museum, keep an eye on the website - www.longshopmuseum.co.uk. and on our calendar of events!
