In a library far far away… Star Wars Reads Day

Several libraries in Suffolk are holding events for Star Wars Reads Day next month. The event on Saturday 10 October is marked across the world as a celebration of Star Wars and the joy of reading. Star Wars Reads Day 2015 is the fourth global event of its kind. It is expected to grow even bigger this year as fans gear up for the theatrical release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December. Several libraries in the county are holding events on Saturday 10 October after applying to the Reading Agency for special Star Wars Reads Day packs: From 1pm–4pm Glemsford Library are celebrating Star Wars Reads Day with a Jedi Training Academy with Glemsford karate teacher Simon Williams. Darth Vader will also be visiting the library for photo opportunities. The event is a great opportunity to dress up, make light sabres and join in with other activities. The event is free and has kindly been sponsored by Simon Williams, Tanswell Cakes and Goodchild Plasterers. People can keep up to date with plans for the event on the library’s new Facebook page Woodbridge Library is holding an event and inviting any young Star Wars fans to bring their Star Wars toys and games and dress up as their favourite character from 10am-4pm. Lowestoft Library is holding a craft activity in the main foyer area, plus a treasure hunt and refreshments. The first 20 children to complete the treasure hunt will win a Star Wars Reads Day wristband. There is also a competition entry form for children to draw "the most scary, interesting or unusual" inquisitor with a prize of a set of Dorling Kindersley Star Wars books and a £50 cinema voucher. Three runners-up will get a copy of 'Star Wars - Absolutely Everything You Need To Know.' Gainsborough Community Library in Ipswich will be holding a Star Wars colouring activity from 12.30–1.30pm, with more crafts and activities from 2pm–4pm. Children (and adults) are welcome to dress up as Star Wars characters or design plastic bag costumes at the library. There will also be a drawing workshop, crafts and a group reading session. Brandon Library are holding Star Wars themed colouring, crafts and other activities from 11am to 12.30pm. Mildenhall Library are holding a Star Wars themed story time and craft activity on the Sunday (11 October) at 11am. For more information visit  Stargazing and Star Wars at Chantry Library- Chantry Library are also holding an ‘Astronomical’ space themed event later in the month on Friday 23 October. From 3.30pm to 5pm there will be a chance to celebrate the new Star Wars film with space related games, crafts and activities. From 6.30pm for adults and children aged 9 and over, there is an evening of star gazing with an interactive presentation at 7pm followed by an opportunity to view the night sky with telescopes. There will be space-themed drinks and refreshments available.
