Madagascar - A Musical Adventure our review
Yesterday we went to “move it move it” at the nearly sell out opening night of Madagascar the Musical, at the Regent theatre, featuring 2016 X Factor winner Matt Terry.
The fact that the theatre had almost sold out was unsurprising, as it is rare to have the opportunity to see a musical that is not only a favourite among children, but that is equally enjoyable to grown ups!
Based on the hugely successful DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar, it tells the story of Alex the Lion, and his friends Marty the zebra, Gloria the hippo and Melman the giraffe who find themselves in a foreign land, far away from the comfort of their home, the New York City Zoo.
Would Marty the zebra survive Alex’s insatiable appetite? Is their friendship doomed? Would they ever make it back home? The show cleverly uses puppetry to play some of the characters which makes the show extra appealing to the younger audience. Jo Parsons plays King Julien the ring tailed lemur, and his interpretation of the character is nothing short of genius. From the moment he steps on the stage he will have you in tears (of laughter) as he gets the party started with the hit song “Move it, move it”, with the whole cast joining in.
Matt Terry’s stunning vocals are a delight to hear, and I love Gloria the hippo’s attitude and stage presence. My son was particularly impressed by Marty’s rapping and breakdancing moves! If you haven’t yet, buy your tickets now as they are selling fast!
