Spring Steam-up

Written by MiriamSpall on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 - 21:40

This Spring the Long Shop Museum will reopen in style by launching the 2016 season with a fantastic steam and activity day from 10am-4pm.

There will be engines large and small in steam – our very own Garrett steamroller ‘Consuelo Allen’, in steam for the first time in several years, and our shunting engine ‘Sirapite’, and several visiting engines, including (just confirmed) Garrett traction engine ‘Felsted Belle’, built in the Garrett Works in 1916, returning here for her Centenary – and travelling in steam all the way from Norfolk for the occasion. Our Garrett Portable engine – an iconic product of the Garrett Works – will also be on display, reassembled and part-restored, for the first time in 20 years.

County Councillor Colin Noble will be ‘cutting the ribbon’ on the Portable at 1pm. There will also be visiting scale model steam engines, stationary engines, the Royal British Legion Band will be playing through the day, and ‘Pretty Grim’ Morris dancers will be performing. All this, plus family ‘hands on’ activities, and refreshments – (don’t miss the home made cakes!) through the day… plus all the Museum’s regular displays in our atmospheric Victorian factory workshop buildings. A great day out for all the family.

No need to book – just come along! Admission is £8 for adults, £4 for children (4-15), £6 for young people (16-21) Under 4s are free – but there’s still lots to keep them entertained. Ticket price includes free museum admission for a full year (except during special event days.)

From Saturday 28th, the Museum will be open 7 days per week throughout the school Easter holidays – please 10-5 Mon-Sat, 11-3 on Sundays (please not new Sunday opening times) – and there will be an ‘egg hunt’ quiz trail and other family activities available – please check the Museum website or phone the Museum (01728 832189) for updated details. www.longshopmuseum.co.uk.
